Haldimand County Pulse

Last week began with the Business Development and Planning Advisory Committee meeting, which included participation from our CAO, Michael Di Lullo. I truly enjoy being part of this bi-monthly committee, as it provides advice and recommendations to Council and staff on matters related to business development, economic growth, land use planning, and related County policies.

I also had the opportunity to tour the Nanticoke Water Treatment Plant alongside staff, followed by attending Soup Fest in Dunnville to help raise funds for the Haldimand Pregnancy Centre. As always, it was a wonderful event filled with delicious soups and strong community support.

Tuesday was Council in Committee, where we discussed three planning applications and heard presentations from BMA Financial Management regarding the Haldimand County Financial Study, as well as updates from the Caledonia, Dunnville, and Hagersville BIAs. Council also received the annual water quality results and a staff report on the County’s Health and Safety Program.

Throughout the week, I joined staff for an agenda review, attended the Emergency Management Program Committee meeting, and participated in an LPRCA meeting in Tillsonburg.

On Thursday, Haldimand County Council held a Special Meeting to discuss the Tax-Supported Capital Budget. Council reviewed and approved the 2026 Tax-Supported Capital Budget, which outlines $46 million in infrastructure investments for 2026 and a total investment of $382 million over the next 10 years.

The Capital Budget supports major assets and long-term investmentswith a strong focus on enhancing and building new municipal infrastructuresuch as roadways, public facilities, and parks and recreation amenitiesIn total, 301 capital projects are planned for the coming year.

Friday included a meeting with MPP Bobbi Ann Brady at the Argyle Street Bridge, where we continue to advocate for much-needed upgrades and replacement of the Caledonia bridge.

The weekend was filled with community events, including the Mayor’s Cup Hockey Tournament in Port Colborne. Players from across the County came together for three closely contested games from Friday night through Saturday morning. Our team fought hard and represented Haldimand County proudly. While it may not have been a winning record, fun was had by all, and we are already looking forward to redemption next year. Thank you to everyone who participated and to the fans who came out to cheer on our team!

I even laced up my skates to join in the Family Skate Day at the Fisherville Lions Outdoor Rink, I along with MPP Brady and members of Council was honoured to skate with Lion Floyd Can Crusher Extraordinaire.

I am looking forward to another busy week ahead!

Thank you
